Roma weather is typically Mediterranean and is blessed with an abundance of sunny, fine days. Overall, Roma weather is rather pleasant; warm and sunny during autumn and spring, hot in summer and mild during winter.

Weather in Roma is at its finest and most comfortable from April through June, and from mid-September through October. This is without doubt the best time to visit the eternal city’s many sights. Occasionally good weather can continue through to mid-December, with the odd cold wind intercepting the prevailing fine weather patterns. On a bad year however, winter makes its grand appearance as early as October bringing along heavy rains.

As a general rule though, Roma weather remains fine throughout winter, especially in comparison to other European capitals. However locals will tell you that weather during winter is marked by its unpredictability. Although fairly mild, weather in Roma is prone to sudden changes that bring along heavy rain and occasional icy winds, se dress accordingly. If you are planning on going outdoors an umbrella is always a good companion, and warm overcoats, scarf and gloves a necessity. Snowfalls, although not severe, are nevertheless a possibility during winter.

Understandably, Roma weather is at its hottest during August. While temperatures during June, July and September often peak around 30ºC, during August they tend to reach a stifling 40º, making sightseeing uncomfortable, increasing the chances of sunstroke. On the up side, August is also the time when most Romans take their summer holidays, greatly reducing the city’s traffic.
